The Anchal Project
2 March 2017 • Design Around the World
The Anchal Project is a nonprofit social enterprise that uses design to address the exploitation of women around the world. The organization designs creative programs and eco-friendly textiles to empower victims of commercial sex trade. Their hope is to provide stable alternatives for those who are stigmatized and marginalized from their local communities. Anchal has trained and employed over 150 women to date. The women who work at Anchal now earn 25%-100% more, allowing them to control financial income and break the cycle of poverty and subjugation that forced them into the sex trade.
Anchal’s dyeScape project provides career opportunities in eco-friendly textile production to exploited women in Louisville.
